A joyful Domus Laeta wedding in Cilento

Adam and Polly chose Southern Italy for a celebration filled with country warmth, historic character and the kind of laughter that cannot be staged.

Reportage meets cinema

A wedding does not have to be romantic every second.

It can be playful, noisy, elegant, emotional and a little unpredictable. What matters is that it feels true to the people living it.

That was the energy of Adam and Polly's Domus Laeta wedding. An English couple, their closest people, a historic house in the hills of Cilento and no pressure to turn the day into a performance. Romance was there, of course - but so were petanque on the lawn, quick jokes across the dinner table, a fan used as a perfect hiding place and a dance floor full of unfiltered joy.

A celebration with personality

Fun is not a break from the story. It is the story.

Some couples express intimacy through quiet gestures; others through movement, humour and the people around them. Adam and Polly gave their day space for both. Nothing needed to be exaggerated for the camera because the real character of the celebration was already everywhere.

My approach is to notice that energy without interrupting it. I work close enough to feel what is happening, but lightly enough for people to forget the film is being made. That is where candid wedding videography and cinematic storytelling begin to meet.

The venue

Why Domus Laeta feels different

Domus Laeta is a seventeenth-century historic residence in Giungano, inside the Cilento National Park and close to the Archaeological Park of Paestum. It is still connected to the Aulisio family and feels like a lived-in Italian home rather than a neutral event space.

The architecture gives a wedding visual depth without asking for excessive decoration: old stone, a frescoed loggia, a library filled with historic volumes, the belvedere, a garden looking towards the valley and sea, and the former water reservoir now transformed into a panoramic pool.

For an international couple, this matters. Guests do not simply attend a reception - they enter a place with its own atmosphere and discover a quieter, more authentic side of Southern Italy.

A natural flow

One venue, several different moods

A strong destination-wedding venue should not only look beautiful. It should let the day evolve.

At Domus Laeta, every transition changes the visual language: an aperitivo around the garden and pool; portraits on the belvedere in the late-afternoon light; an outdoor dinner beneath the vine pergola; a quiet editorial interlude in the library; then music and dancing after sunset. These spaces make the film feel varied while the story remains coherent.

Dinner beneath the vines

Landscape becomes part of the reception.

The pergola looks across the Cilento countryside and gives dinner the relaxed rhythm of a long Italian evening. It is refined without being rigid - a setting where speeches, conversations and spontaneous reactions can unfold naturally.

For the film, I look for the small exchanges happening between the formal moments: a glance before a toast, hands reaching across the table, friends laughing in the background. They are details, but together they are what make the memory feel alive.

Reportage + editorial

Real moments can still look like cinema.

I do not see reportage and editorial imagery as opposites. Reportage preserves behaviour, rhythm and emotion; an editorial eye brings intention to light, composition and movement. Used together, they create a film that is honest without feeling accidental and polished without feeling artificial.

At Domus Laeta, the contrast is especially rich. The candid energy of the garden can sit beside a few calm, directed minutes in the historic interiors. Adam and Polly never had to become different versions of themselves for either one.

Planning a Domus Laeta wedding

Useful notes for international couples

These are the venue qualities I would consider when planning the guest experience and the visual rhythm of the day. Availability, capacity and event arrangements should always be confirmed directly with Domus Laeta.

01

Location

Giungano offers a countryside setting in Cilento, with Paestum and the coast close enough to turn the wedding into a wider Southern Italian experience.

02

Guest stay

The historic residence has guest rooms on site. Ask the venue about current room availability and nearby accommodation for the rest of the party.

03

Wedding flow

Garden, pool, belvedere, vine pergola and indoor rooms allow each phase to have its own atmosphere without moving guests between several venues.

04

Plan B

The residence also has historic indoor spaces. Discuss the wet-weather layout, guest count and music plan early with the venue team.

Make it feel like you

How to plan a wedding that leaves room for fun

  1. Choose a venue with space to move. Different areas encourage guests to explore, talk and play instead of remaining seated all day.
  2. Protect some unscheduled time. A timeline needs structure, but not every minute needs an activity. The unplanned gaps often produce the most personal scenes.
  3. Plan for your people, not for a trend. A garden game, long dinner or early dance floor works when it reflects how you genuinely enjoy being together.
  4. Work with discreet storytellers. Photo and video teams should recognise a moment without taking it away from you.
