When Olivia and Kyle told me they chose Masseria Don Luigi for their wedding, I knew we were in for something special. As a videographer, Puglia isn’t just a location; it’s a specific color palette of sun-drenched limestone, silver olive leaves, and that deep, Mediterranean blue.
However, capturing a wedding here is as much about technical precision as it is about storytelling. Here is how we documented Olivia and Kyle’s day.
Masseria Don Luigi is famous for its whitewashed walls. While stunning, these walls act like giant natural reflectors. For Olivia and Kyle’s film, I focused on managing these high-contrast environments to keep the skin tones warm and organic, avoiding the “blown-out” look that digital sensors often struggle with in Southern Italy.
The goal was to preserve the texture of the stone and the delicate earthy tones of the décor, ensuring the film felt as tactile as the day itself.
A great wedding film isn’t just about what you see; it’s about what you hear. For this story, I didn’t just record the vows. I captured the ambient sounds that define Puglia:
The rustle of the ancient olive groves during the couple’s portrait session.
The specific “clink” of local ceramics during the reception.
The laughter echoing through the Masseria’s courtyard.
These layers of sound design are what transform a video into a living memory.
No great film is made in a vacuum. Working alongside Valentina (Wedding Planner) was seamless; her timing allowed us to use the “Golden Hour” perfectly. I also collaborated closely with photographer Chloe David. We shared the space by prioritizing the couple’s experience—avoiding “posed” moments and instead capturing the natural flow of the day.
The floral design by Caterina Ruggieri, featuring bold anthuriums and lush hydrangeas, provided the perfect structural elements for my foreground shots, adding depth to every frame.
If you’re considering a Masseria wedding, my advice as a videographer is to embrace the shadows. The contrast between the bright courtyards and the cool, dark interiors of the Masseria creates a cinematic mood that is unique to Italy.
Whether you are planning an intimate elopement or a grand celebration, look for a filmmaker who understands how to work with the Puglian sun, not against it.
